Wettbewerbsaufgabe
In Zusammenhang mit der Neugestaltung des Messegeländes im Zentrum von Thessaloniki plant die TIF-HELEXPO S.A. den Bau eines neuen Ausstellungs- und Konferenzzentrums. Dieses soll höchste qualitative Standards erfül- len, identitätsstiftenden Charakter haben, Umweltparameter respektieren und so zu einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung beitragen.
Das Gebiet umfasst insgesamt eine Fläche von ca. 161.769 m2 und ist in sechs verschiedene Sektoren unterteilt:
Sektor I und II: Hier sollen die Ausstellungseinrichtungen entwickelt werden. Die Unterteilung der Ausstellungsflächen in zwei Sektoren ergibt sich aus der zulässigen Höhe der Gebäude.
Sektor III: Dieser wird die gewerbliche Nutzung mit der Entwicklung von Geschäfts-, Büro-, Freizeit- und Hoteleinrichtungen umfassen.
Sektor IV: Dieser soll die Entwicklung des neuen Konferenzzentrums für eine breite Öffentlichkeit z.B. zu kulturellen Zwecken zusammen mit einer luxuriösen weiteren Ausstellungsfläche umfassen. Dieser Sektor wird zusammen mit den Sektoren I und II als ein Komplex betrieben werden, nicht nur wegen der erforderlichen großen Ausstellungsfläche, sondern auch wegen der vollständigen Kompatibilität beider Nutzungen, da viele der Veranstaltungen im ConfEx-Komplex gemischt sein werden.
Sektor V: Hier soll die große Freifläche entwickelt werden.
Sektor VI: Dieser umfasst das erhaltene AAMTH- Gelände mit den umliegenden Freiflächen.
Das gesamte Projekt und insbesondere die Gestaltung der Gebäudebereiche III und IV sollten von sehr hoher architektonischer Qualität sein. Denn es ist ein explizites Ziel, ein neues Wahrzeichen im Großraum Thessaloniki entstehen zu lassen, das für die nächsten Jahrzehnte als weithin sichtbares Zeichen beispielhafter Architektur in der Stadt fungiert.
Competition assignment
TIF-HELEXPO S.A. with the redevelopment of the Fairgrounds in the center of Thessaloniki envisions the construction of an Exhibition & Conference Center with strong identity, which will respect environmental parameters. The Master Plan was designed by the urban planner Dimitris Doumas winner of the tendering procedure in 2018. Within the Master Plan area, the Site is an area of 161.769,04 m2 and divided into 6 sectors according to land uses: Sector I and II, in which the exhibition facilities will be developed. The division of the exhibition facilities into two sectors resulted from the different specified maximum allowed height of the buildings. Sector III will include the business uses with development of commercial, office, recreation and hotel facilities. Sector IV will include the development of the new Conference Center along with a luxury exhibition space. This sector is intended to operate together with sectors I and II as a complex, as many of the events in the ConfEx Complex will be mixed. Sector V, in which the large open space will be developed. Sector VI, the preserved AAMTH area with its surrounding open space.

The Project
TIF-HELEXPO S.A. with the redelevopment of the Fairgrounds in the center of Thessaloniki envisions the construction of an Exhibition & Conference Center with strong identity, which will fulfill the highest standards that shall optimize the arrangement of its facilities and activities, respect environmental parameters and contribute to sustainable development. One of the main project goals is to stimulate the redevelopment of a prominent part of the city center, a redevelopment that shall have a major impact on the economy of the city and the broader area of Northern Greece, contributing, thus, to the transformation of Thessaloniki into one of the top, forward-looking cities of Europe and a leading, international business hub and tourist destination.
The Competition
The “INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION FOR THE THESSALONIKI CONFEX PARK” is launched as an international, one-stage architectural design project Competition conducted in restricted procedure and it will be conducted according to the UNESCO Regulations and the UIA best practice recommendations. UIA endorsement is pending.

Prizes
Three Competitors that will be awarded by the Jury with the first, the second and the third prizes will be awarded respectively the following prize-money:
1st prize: 50.000 Euro
2nd prize: 30.000 Euro
3rd prize: 20.000 Euro
The Jury may also award honorary mentions to projects with a particular merit.
All Competitors who submit entries at the Design Competition complying with the regulations will receive an honorarium of 15.000 euro each.
