EU-offener Wettbewerb
Wettbewerbsaufgabe/Competition assignment
The competition task was to come up with an idea for and plan an innovative and eco-efficient futuristic urban unit for 20.000 residents and, as the second part, apply these plans to the Henna area in Orimattila.
The idea competition is related to the two-year InTo ressearch and development project, which is currently underway. Its goal is to create a new urban concept which takes the needs and goals of not only the residents and users of the area, but also sustainable development and society as a whole into consideration from day one of planning. The new urban concept will be applied first to the Henna area in Orimattila as a pilot project.
The idea is that the residents of Henna would not need to use a car in their daily lives. All jobs and services in the area are within a walking or cycling distance. Those working outside the area can easily walk or bicycle from their homes to the close-by Henna station, riding the train to work. Upon returning, they could purchase the daily groceries etc. from the store near the station an pick up their children from the nearby kindergarten.
