Wettbewerbsaufgabe
The TU Delft is expecting a substantial growth of students in the coming years. That is why 1100 new built student residences are realised in the masterplan of Mecanoo for the TU-Delft Mid-West.
The project is a planning process initiated by DUWO Foundation (specialised in student housing). The realisation of the project is planned for 2013. DUWO is looking for an architect and a development partner. The project Balthasar van der Polweg is the first out of the 6 locations that will be developed in the area TU Delft Midden West. This development contains 850 built parking spaces, 1100 student flats, 8050 m2 offices and 1300 m2 commercial space. In 2009 Housing corporation DUWO acquired the rights to develop this area. The entire area will be developed in different phases and is planned to be completed in 2017.
The first project will be located in Field 2 along the Balthasar van der Polweg.
For this location housing-corporation DUWO composed three teams, each consisting of a contractor and an architect. The teams are invited to send in a conceptual design for 140 permanent student flats together with a collaborative bid of the contractor. The project parameters are to design a volume of 67 meters long and 5 storeys high. The building should have its own strong identity and a collective outdoor space on the roof. Another requirement is to have rainwater harvesting on the roof as well. The new building at the Balthasar van der Polweg should have a quality for 50 years. The realization is planned for 2013.
