Inspiriert von der kürzlichen Ernennung Agrigentos zur italienischen Kulturhauptstadt 2025 wurden Designer aus der ganzen Welt eingeladen, sich Gedanken über die Restaurierung des historischen Zollhauses in Punta Bianca zu machen. Gesucht wurden kreative und innovative Vorschläge für die Umwandlung dieses einzigartigen, verlassenen Gebäudes in einen lebendigen, modernen Raum, der die vielen Besucher, die jedes Jahr in das Naturschutzgebiet kommen, willkommen heißt. Mit dem Projekt sollte sichergestellt werden, dass der intrinsische Wert dieser unberührten Landschaft gewahrt bleibt und dem Ort neues Leben eingehaucht wird, wobei der Respekt vor der empfindlichen natürlichen Umgebung im Vordergrund stand.
Competition assignment
Inspired by Agrigento’s recent designation as the Italian Capital of Culture 2025, this competition invited designers worldwide to envision the restoration of the historic Customs House located in Punta Bianca. The competition sought creative and innovative proposals to transform this unique, abandoned building into a vibrant contemporary space capable of welcoming the many visitors who come to the Nature Reserve each year. Emphasizing a deep respect for the delicate natural surroundings, the project aimed to ensure that the intrinsic value of this pristine landscape is preserved while breathing new life into the site.

PUNTA BIANCA Architecture Competition
TerraViva launches PUNTA BIANCA, a new architecture competition aimed to rethink a wonderful ruin located on the Sicilian coast of Agrigento.
Prizes up to 8.000 € will be awarded to the winners selected by an international jury panel composed, among others, by Carlos de Riaño Lozano (Riaño+Arquitectos), Mario Cottone (Cottone+Indelicato), Ju Bin (Horizontal Design) and Sebastiano Amore (ACA).
BRIEF
Inspired by the recent designation of Agrigento as the Italian Capital of Culture 2025, the competition invites architects and designers from around the world to submit creative and innovative proposals aimed at the restoration of the Customs House located in Punta Bianca.

GUIDELINES
The goal is to envision a vibrant future for this unique abandoned building, transforming it into a contemporary space designed to welcome the thousands of enthusiasts, tourists and curious visitors who flock to the nature reserve each year. The project emphasizes the need for careful consideration of the delicate natural context in which the restoration proposal will be set, ensuring the intrinsic value of this pristine landscape is preserved.

The competition is open to architects, landscape designers, interior designers, students, enthusiasts, engineers, artists, makers and anyone interested in the fields of architecture and urban regeneration. Participants can join the competition either individually or with a team.
