Der Wettbewerb lud die Teilnehmer ein, ein alpines Biwak zu entwerfen, eine kleine, unentbehrliche Unterkunft in der abgelegenen Hochgebirgslandschaft des italienischen Stilfserjoch-Nationalparks. Der Wettbewerb verlangte ein zeitgemäßes Überdenken dieser einzigartigen Typologie und ermutigte zu Entwürfen, die das empfindliche Verhältnis zwischen menschlicher Präsenz und wilder Natur untersuchen. Die Teilnehmer wurden aufgefordert, über Themen wie Nachhaltigkeit, Verantwortung und Respekt nachzudenken und sich dabei auf die marginalen, oft extremen Bedingungen der alpinen Umgebung einzulassen. Mit dem Ziel, temporäre Zufluchtsorte zu schaffen, die den Geist der Berge widerspiegeln, suchte der Wettbewerb nach Architektur, die ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Innovation und Bescheidenheit herstellt und in der Landschaft und Tradition verwurzelt ist.
Competition assignment
This competition invited participants to design an alpine bivouac, a small, essential shelter immersed in the remote high-altitude terrain of Italy’s Stelvio National Park. The challenge called for a contemporary rethinking of this unique typology, encouraging designs that explore the delicate relationship between human presence and wild nature. Participants were asked to reflect on themes of sustainability, responsibility, and respect while embracing the marginal, often extreme conditions of alpine environments. With the aim of crafting temporary refuges that resonate with the spirit of the mountains, the competition sought architecture that balances innovation with humility, rooted in landscape and tradition.

Introduction
MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN – ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION
Participants will work on the design of an alpine bivouac immersed in the wonderful natural context of Stelvio National Park (Italy).
The aim of this competition is to creatively address the experience of living the high-altitude lands, exploring historical, marginal and extreme situations of the alpine environment, rethinking the canons of the relationship between man and nature based on concepts such as responsibility, respect and sustainability.
The project aims to explore a unique architectural typology – the bivouac – essentially based on a temporary accommodation in close connection with wild nature. Nowadays, it is commonly believed that living the high mountains should be intimately linked to a more contemporary design approach.
