ARQUITECTUM was the first international platform and agency of its kind dedicated to organising open architecture competitions for professionals, graduates and students to present their vision for Various set projects as means of exposing and communication their practice and work to prospective clients, employers and publishers worldwide.
The challenge
The challenge for this competition is to design a new building to house the Gothic Design Archive. The structure should present a Modern or Contemporary interpretation of a Gothic Architecture. The Gothic design Archive will house a collection of historical documents or records and a host of information chronicling the Gothic influence on architecture, art, design, fashion and popular culture.
Objectives of the competition
The objectives of GOTHIC DESIGN ARCHIVE Competition are the following:
- Reward quality design solutions that responds effectively to the specification of this brief.
- Encourage architectural design solution and ideas that best respond to the location.
- Generate both functional and volumetric contribution to the site.
- Promote the design of a structure that take into context the site and topology.
- Stimulate the discussion of ideas regarding the intervention and construction on such a site.
Competition structure
This is a single stage Competition to identify the most appropriate and most consistent proposal in accordance to the general and specific objectives of the contest.
The project
The project is to design a GOTHIC DESIGN ARCHIVE along Carrer de la independencia next to Avinguda Meridiana on the grid within Carrer del Dos de Maig, Carrer Consell de cent, Carrer de la independencia and Placa Glories Catalanes in Barcelona to house the Gothic Design Archives and other related temporary exhibitions.
Elegibility
Eligible for participation in the competition are:
- Architects, Graduates who have completed their architecture studies (including bachelors).
- Architecture students (under the direction of an Architect or course professor where possible, but not mandatory.
- Multidisciplinary teams may also take part in the competitions (designers, engineers, artist, etc.) as long as they have an Architect as Team Leader.
- Teams can only consist of a maximum of four (04) members.
Prizes and benefits
1st Prize:
- US $ 2,500 (TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED US DOLLARS)
- Promotion on the Arquitectum website
- Possible Exhibition in London amongst other Arquitectum projects

2nd Prize:
- US $ 1,000 (ONE THOUSAND US DOLLARS)
