Der internationale Design-Wettbewerb für den zentralen Stadtplatz von Rahovec wird im Rahmen des Projekts „Führende urbane Veränderung in Rahovec durch Revitalisierung des zentralen Stadtplatzes“ organisiert. Das Projekt wird von der Stadtverwaltung Rahovec finanziert und mit der technischen Unterstützung von UN-Habitat umgesetzt. Das Hauptanliegen des Projekts ist die Förderung der Stadterneuerung und der nachhaltigen Stadtentwicklung sowie des inklusiven öffentlichen Raums durch die Anwendung transparenter und innovativer Methoden der partizipativen Planung und Gestaltung des zentralen Stadtplatzes von Rahovec, einem strategischen Teil des Stadtgebiets.
Die Gemeinde Rahovec befindet sich in der westlichen Region des Landes und umfasst eine Fläche von 275,89 km². Nach der letzten Volkszählung von 2011 hat die Gemeinde eine Gesamtbevölkerung von 56.208 Einwohnern. Rahovec hat eine gute geografische Lage mit einem kontinentalen Klima und ist bekannt für seine Weinberge und Weine, entwickelte Landwirtschaft, reiches Kultur- und Naturerbe, während der zentrale Stadtplatz ein Bezugspunkt für den lokalen und internationalen Tourismus werden soll.
Durch den internationalen Wettbewerb möchte die Gemeinde Rahovec eine nachhaltige Gestaltungslösung des zentralen Stadtplatzes erreichen, die allen Bürgern, insbesondere Frauen, Kindern, älteren Menschen und Menschen mit eingeschränkter Mobilität, den Zugang zu sicheren und gepflegten öffentlichen Räumen ermöglicht. Außerdem sollen neue Geschäftsmöglichkeiten geschaffen und die Qualität des städtischen Lebens erhöht werden, im Einklang mit der New Urban Agenda und der Agenda für nachhaltige Entwicklung.

Through the international competition, the municipality of Rahovec aims to achieve a sustainable design solution of the Central City Square, which provides access to safe and healthy public spaces for all its citizens, in particular for women, children, the elderly and people with special needs. It also aims to create new business opportunities and increase the quality of urban life, in line with the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Agenda.
