Resilient Futures: Architecture for a Changing Climate

Introduction
The 21st century has brought unprecedented climate challenges—rising sea levels, intensifying floods, prolonged heat waves, devastating wildfires, and extreme storms. These environmental shifts threaten human habitats, infrastructure, and ecosystems worldwide.
The Resilient Futures Design Competition calls on architects, designers, and students to propose visionary solutions that address these challenges. This is more than an architecture competition—it is a call to reimagine how we live, adapt, and thrive in a climate-uncertain future.

Timeline
Competition Launch: 1st September 2025
Registration deadline: 2nd December 2025
Submission deadline: 10th December 2025
Result Announcement: February 5th 2026

Theme
Designing adaptive, resilient, and sustainable architecture that responds to the escalating impacts of climate change.

Design Challenge
Participants are invited to propose architectural or urban interventions that:

• Withstand and adapt to climate-related disasters such as floods, wildfires, droughts, and storms.
• Explore resilience not only as survival, but as an opportunity for ecological regeneration and social well-being.
• Innovate with local materials, traditional wisdom, and low-carbon technologies.
• Demonstrate how communities can continue to thrive under environmental uncertainty.

The design may be speculative or site-specific, addressing scales from small shelters to large-scale urban visions.

Context:
Competitors may:
• Choose a real-world site vulnerable to climate risks, or
• Propose a speculative context to imagine future conditions and architectural responses.

Aim
The aim of this competition is to push the boundaries of resilient architecture—to inspire forward-thinking solutions that confront climate change head-on and redefine how architecture can serve both people and planet.
