The Competition
Bunyan architectural foundation announces an architectural competition within the Islamic context. The theme of the competition is related to the development of the architectural design for minarets across different Islamic timespans. The program of the competition challenge participants to design a minaret that commensurates with the current contemporary time of Islamic architecture. Modern technologies, tools, building materials, and other current global developments in the field of engineering and arts offers the opportunity for modern architects to redesign the minaret in a way that enables it to highlight the aesthetic and functional beauty of Islamic architecture while fulfilling the requirements of the cultural and natural environment to which it is associated. As the minaret is one of the Islamic symbols, this competition is presented to encourage discussion and exchange ideas of new generated proposals that help to enrich architectural research in the Islamic context and it also gives a closer look for our imagination to see how would our Islamic cities look like in the current time.

The competition is open for: architects, engineers, urban planners, urban designers, designers, as well as students, who wish to be part of making Islamic architecture more crystallized within the context of the present era by developing a proposal capable of responding to emerging challenges in areas such as architecture, modern arts and building technology.

First place winner: $5.000
Second place winner: $1.000
The winning design will be presented at Bunyan Architectural Exhibition that will be held at the Cultural village of Katara in Doha, Qatar in early January 2020.
