Arte Fiera 2021
Applications to participate in Arte Fiera 2021 are now open. The fair will take place from 22 to 24 January, physically and in safe conditions for all, both exhibitors and visitors. In consideration of the great hardships faced by galleries in recent months, we have decided to offer reduced fees.
Arte Fiera is Italy’s longest-running modern and contemporary art fair (founded in 1974). After two editions of completely renewed exhibition rules and structure, the 2021 edition consolidates this new format and once again offers the Main section alongside three curated and invitation-only sections: Photography and moving images, Focus and Pittura XXI.
The Main section ranges from Modern and Post-War art (traditional strong points of Arte Fiera) to contemporary research, with strong emphasis on Italian art. It encourages monographic stands (a substantial part of the section) and curatorial proposals that focus on a 20th-century school, trend or period.
Photography and moving images, entrusted to the Fantom curatorial platform (Selva Barni, Ilaria Speri, Massimo Torrigiani and Francesco Zanot) considers the photographic medium in a strictly contemporary manner: it is open to video and encourages dialogue between photography and other media. Now in its third edition, it is a reference point in Italy for collectors and photography enthusiasts.
Focus, introduced in 2020, concentrates on Modern Art and Post-War Masters, with content that changes from year to year: the curator is free to choose the period, trend, and artistic school to be presented. The 2021 edition, curated by art critic and historian Marco Meneguzzo, will regard so-called “exact art” (which includes kinetic art, programmed art, and similar trends) from the late ’50s to the ‚70s, with specific attention to the Italian scene.
Pittura XXI, curated by Davide Ferri, also in its second edition, is a new format for art fairs (both Italian and foreign): a panorama of 21st-century painting, both Italian and foreign, that ranges from emerging to mid-career artists. For the first time, an art fair devotes a specialised section to the most traditional medium, which in recent years has returned to centre stage for critics, institutions and the market.
Applications for Arte Fiera 2021 are open until 14 October 2020. The application form is available on www.artefiera.it
