Wettbewerbsaufgabe/Competition assignment
The aim of this International Competition is to design a Champagne Bar along the Paris river “Seine” and by the romantic “Pont des Arts”.
This competition hopes to achieve the following:
- Encourage and reward design excellence at a medium scale which integrates function, structure and details.
- Research and investigate the various combination possibilities to create a social space within the city.
- To generate the discussion of ideas regarding the relation between architecture and water.
- Encourage the employment of sustainable design in all aspects of the proposal.
The selected site for this competition is situated on the right bank of the River Seine within the 1th arrondissement of Paris next to the Pont des Arts.
The Pont des Arts or Passerelle des Arts is a pedestrian bridge in Paris which crosses the Seine River. It links the Institut de France and the central square (cour carrée) of the palais du Louvre, (which had been termed the “Palais des Arts” under the First Empire).
The bridge has sometimes served as a place for art exhibitions, and is today an open air for painters, artists and photographers who are drawn to its unique point of view.
The space program with approximately 350 m2 is divided in:
- Hall / Entrance: a 10m2 space with a security guard and a hostess.
- Cloakroom: a 10m2 space connected directly to the Entrance.
- Bar Counter: dimension is open to individual partic- ipant’s design.
- Seating Area: a 150 m2 space with capacity for 20 tables (each seating 4 people).
- VIP Area: a 40 m2 enclosed seating area for private parties with capacity of 20 people max. (can be subdivide into a set of smaller spaces).
- Performance Area (stage): a 15m2 platformed space to host live jazz music and other performances.
- Facilities: a 50m2 space with 4 unisex toilet cubicles and 2 disable cubicles.
- Kitchen/storage: a 20 m2 space for mainly small snack catering and washing services.
This space should be connected to the Bar Counter.
- Administration: a 40 m2 space destined for office, changing room and storage.
- Plant: a 15m2 space to contain a boiler, electrical and other systems.
- Single emergency exit.
- Terrace: dimension is open to individual participant’s design.
