About the Competition
Every year, the International Prizes of the Jacques Rougerie Foundation - Institut de France reward bold and visionary architects, designers, artists, engineers and urban planners from all over the world who imagine the habitats of the future related to the Ocean or to Space.

In 2022, the 12th edition of the Jacques Rougerie Foundation offers you to get involved in your boldest, most forward-looking projects. They must be in phase with the challenges of our backups. First based on biomimicry, an infinite source of inspiration, they will be thought out and designed in a transversal vision of knowledge. Enthusiastic more than normalized, they will demonstrate that inspiration when it intersects form, function and environment, can lead the project where it is not expected.

Architects, designers, engineers, artists, inventors, creators, philosophers, technicians, you are invited to form inventive teams and to share, within the framework of the Foundation, the way in which you plan to build a happy and resilient future, regardless of the place, on land, at sea or in space, where your generous ideas to build this future will shine.

SHARE YOUR DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE

“Whatever one man can imagine; other men will be able to achieve it”
– Jules Verne

OBSERVE BEFORE ACTING

Nature and all the wonders it shapes are the playgrounds in which we evolve and we will always run faster to understand why we are here. We cross lands, seas, oceans, skies, stratospheres and we discover, each time, the richness of their bodies, their structure and the diversity of their forms. Like the life they bring to life. The Sessile Oak, Magpie, Manta Ray, Fire Coral, Leather Urchin, Bald Eagle, Storm Cloud, Milky Way, Orion and Betelgeuse, like all the others species and phenomena, which are just as extravagant, must teach us to observe before acting.

MORE THAN EVER BE CREATIVE

Enlightened, passionate and daring, you are all aware of the treasures that populate and cover our planet with their power and elegance. Great changes are touching her, touching her and penetrating her in these wild and uncertain times that we have lived through for two decades. Climates, societies, energies, human rights and species are changing. More than ever, we need to be creative.

GET INSPIRED BY THE LIVING

For you who are creators, thinkers, scientists, artists, talented women and men, the planet awaits you. For you who want to act by providing answers to the questions that arise and to propose renewed living environments, architecture is a territory of permanent experimentation. Its contents are indifferently thought out according to the land, the coast, the sea, the oceans and the space it crosses. The Renaissance exposed biomimicry and its 3.8 billion years of evolution, but we are not yet done (far from it) exploring this unprecedented path of innovation which can be defined simply: s inspire the living. Leonardo da Vinci said „Go take your lessons in nature, that‘s where our future is“.

A HUMAN-CENTERED PHILOSOPHY

With the energy of your youth, for some, and armed with what builds your convictions, for others, you will engage with passion in a future that only you can design and build so that it lasts and resists shocks. of an orderly modernity. As for nature, your thoughts have will be human-centered. It is about the balance of the planet.

DARE TO DARE

Today more than ever, it is imperative to dare. Find solutions for the new ways of living, the best solutions enabling people to live well in what we are building, on land and at sea. We will be 10 billion human beings in 2050. Three quarters of the population will be living near seashores and will be directly affected by the problem of sea level rise. As for the exploration of space, it is now inevitable and must be part of an approach that guarantees us a clear sky.
